LJMU academic wins Mersey Maritime award
The outstanding work of an LJMU academic has been celebrated at the prestigious Mersey Maritime Industry Awards (MMIA) 2025.
Dr Robyn Pyne, who is based in the university’s School of Engineering and Built Environment, won the Change Maker award in recognition of her work delivering transformational change in maritime education, research and industry engagement.
Driving change in the maritime industry
Robyn was nominated for her work seamlessly bridging academia and industry, and her track record of driving significant change across the sector. She collected the award in front of hundreds of industry professionals at the awards ceremony at Liverpool Cathedral.
Robyn is the Programme Leader in the School of Engineering and Built Environment (International Lead) and is one of the founding members of the Global Centre for Maritime Innovation (GCMI).
In her teaching role, Robyn delivers a range of modules critical to shaping future maritime professionals, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for roles in the industry. Through her work with partners and collaborative initiatives, she plays a key role in developing opportunities for students, graduates and staff within the sector.
I’m truly honoured to receive this award. It reflects not just my work, but the shared commitment of everyone striving to connect education, research and industry to shape a stronger, more sustainable maritime future for our region and beyond.
