Join the Library’s Research Engagement Team for a variety of sessions, all devoted to helping you to develop, maintain and share your research profile.
All sessions are online and open to anyone to attend. You can find the full calendar of events on our Research Engagement events page and sessions will be recorded and shared afterwards on our Library Researcher Engagement Canvas page.
Profile Boost Week events
ORCiD for research
Monday 23 June, from 11am to 11.30am
This session will focus on ORCiD, a unique digital identifier that distinguishes you from every other researcher. We will discuss how to get an ORCiD, how to link with Symplectic and how to start using your ORCiD to share information about you.
Creating and curating your research profile
Monday 23 June, from 3pm to 4pm
This session will discuss how to get your research profile off to a good start, with tips and tools to sign up for, connect to and check. You’ll have the opportunity to hear about why both creating and curating your research profile over time as a PGR, researcher (and beyond!) and will help you to stay up-to-date with your research, your connections with others and help keep track of what you do.
Introduction to Symplectic
Wednesday 25 June, from 10am to 10.45am
Symplectic (also known as Symplectic Elements) is the tool that helps you to manage your front facing LJMU staff profile as well as deposit your publications to the institutional open access repositories.
This session will cover:
- Navigation of the system.
- How to edit and populate your biography.
- How to optimise your search and automatic claiming settings.
- How to add publications and professional activities.
- How and what to deposit to the institutional repositories.
- Common queries related to the system and staff profiles.
LJMU Profiles for research and professional services staff
Wednesday 25 June, from 2pm to 2.45pm
Come along to get help with how to make the most of your LJMU Profile. LJMU Profiles are available to researchers, academics, professional services staff and PGRs
In this session you will learn:
- How to access Symplectic the tool that allows you to edit your profile
- How to edit and populate your biography and other narrative sections of your profile
- How to add publications, professional activities and teaching activities
- How to manage visibility within your profile
Social media for researchers
Thursday 26 June, from 11am to 2noon
Come along to find out different ways that you can utilise social media tools to promote your research profile, using social media in your field and understand social media more generally.
This session will involve:
- Looking at different social media tools
- Give you tips on where to start
- Looking at social media metrics within publishing
Evidencing your research reach with metrics
Friday 27 June, from 10am to 11am
Heard about H index but not sure what it means? Having difficulty finding the best metrics to use to demonstrate what you do? Confused by SNIP and FWCI?
During this workshop we will discuss the above metrics and more, giving to time to plan and think about where you can locate and utilise research metrics to demonstrate your work best.
We will discuss a variety of publication metrics from a variety of databases, like Scopus, SciVal, Dimensions and Overton and other tools like the LJMU Repository and OCLC WorldCat.
LinkedIn for research
Friday 27 June, from 2pm to 2.30pm
This session will give you an overview of using LinkedIn as a researcher, with examples of how you can use LinkedIn to connect with others, follow other research organisations and use LinkedIn Learning. There will be live demonstrations and plenty of time for questions.
