Join the Local Solutions Big SleepOut this October

The Local Solutions Big SleepOut returns to Liverpool Cricket Club on Thursday 9 October and our charity partner is asking you to be part of it.

For one night, they are calling on individuals, businesses, and community groups to join them in sleeping out under the stars to raise vital funds and awareness for the growing number of young people experiencing homelessness. Every participant is encouraged to raise at least £50.

Last year’s event was an incredible success, raising £10,000 and bringing people together to support young homeless people across the Liverpool City Region and North Wales. The atmosphere was one of solidarity and hope, with participants braving the cold to show their support for young people facing some of the most difficult challenges imaginable. This year, they want to go even further.

Youth homelessness is a growing crisis

In the UK last year, 136,000 young people approached their local authority for help because they were homeless or at risk. That’s one young person every four minutes. Behind each number is a young person whose life has been thrown into chaos - a young person who needs urgent support to find safety and stability.

Homelessness doesn’t just mean sleeping rough. It’s hidden in friends’ sofas, in unsafe environments and in the constant fear of not knowing where you’ll sleep next. It takes a toll on mental health, disrupts education and employment, stripping young people of their confidence and future prospects.

Support offered by Local Solutions

Local Solutions has spent five decades working to tackle homelessness across the Liverpool City Region and North Wales. They provide temporary accommodation for those in immediate need, longer-term housing for those building towards independence and resettlement services to help young people transition into secure, permanent homes. They don’t just offer a roof; they offer hope, stability and a path forward.

But they can’t do it alone. They need the help of everyone here at LJMU.

By signing up for the Big SleepOut, you’re doing more than spending a night outside. You’re making a powerful statement that youth homelessness is unacceptable. You’re showing young people in our community that they matter, that they’re seen and that there’s a community ready to stand with them.

Last year, participants came away with a renewed sense of purpose and understanding, having shared in a small glimpse of the challenges faced by those without a home. This event is not just about fundraising; it’s about empathy, connection, and the collective power of people coming together for change.

Every penny raised will go directly towards supporting young people in crisis, providing them with safe accommodation, essential life skills and the support they need to build a brighter future.
