Board of Governors staff vacancies 2026
The Secretariat is now seeking expressions of interest from eligible candidates to serve as Staff Governors on the Board of Governors.
There are two vacancies available:
- One professional services staff member
- One academic member of staff
Each position is held for a period of three years, and the Secretariat looks forward to hearing from interested candidates from across the LJMU community.
If you are interested in becoming a Staff Governor, please email your expression of interest to the Secretariat by 5pm on Friday 1 May 2026, clearly indicating whether you are applying for the professional services or academic vacancy.

Ensuring our Board of Governors is inclusive
The Secretariat is committed to supporting a Board of Governors that reflects the diversity of the LJMU community and upholds the university’s wider commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Expressions of interest are welcomed from all eligible staff, with particular encouragement extended to colleagues from groups that are currently underrepresented.
Responsibilities of the Board of Governors
The Board of Governors is collectively responsible for overseeing the institution’s activities, determining its future direction, and fostering an environment in which the university’s mission is achieved, and the potential of all learners is maximised.
All persons appointed to the Board are expected to be committed to the institution’s vision and values and to the success of the individuals and communities we serve.
The successful candidates will observe the highest standards of corporate governance in exercising their responsibilities. The Secretariat will provide a comprehensive induction for the appointed Staff Governors and will maintain ongoing support throughout their three‑year terms, ensuring they are fully equipped to contribute effectively to the Board.
Process for filling the vacancies
If more than one expression of interest is received for either vacancy, an election will be called. Further information will be provided in due course regarding the election process and next steps.
