LJMU students visit House of Commons for social mobility event
Two LJMU students were invited to the House of Commons to join business leaders, policymakers and organisations committed to improving social mobility across the UK.
Amerie Wheeler and Suren Hayrapetyan were guests of former Education Secretary and Purpose Coalition Chair Rt Hon Justine Greening at the Purpose Coalition summer reception.
Second-year Marketing student Amerie and third-year Accounting and Finance student Suren have been actively involved with the Purpose Coalition, gaining valuable experience through paid internship opportunities, professional networking and engagement with employers across a range of sectors.
Breaking down barriers to opportunity
Their involvement has enabled them to build connections, develop professional skills and contribute to discussions focused on breaking down barriers to opportunity.
For Amerie, the invitation marked another milestone in an impressive year of personal and professional development. Alongside her role as a Purpose Coalition Student Ambassador, she has also worked as a Student Futures Co-Creation Intern, helping to shape services and initiatives that enhance the student experience at LJMU.
Being involved with both the Purpose Coalition and Student Futures has given me opportunities I never imagined I would have while still at university. Meeting business leaders, contributing to meaningful projects and attending events at the House of Commons has helped me grow in confidence and broaden my aspirations for the future.

Suren's journey through LJMU has been equally inspiring. Alongside his work with the Purpose Coalition, he has built an impressive track record of achievement through employability and professional development opportunities.
His contributions have been recognised through awards gained during his work with Unitemps, reflecting his dedication, professionalism and commitment to making the most of every opportunity available to him.
Graduating this summer with a degree in Accounting and Finance, Suren has continued to expand his professional network and develop industry knowledge through his involvement with the Purpose Coalition. Looking ahead, he plans to continue his academic journey by undertaking a Master's in Investment and Finance at Liverpool Business School later this year, demonstrating his commitment to lifelong learning and career development.
