Belonging Starts Here
As we begin the new academic year, the Diversity and Inclusion Team is pleased to share 'Belonging Starts Here', our programme of training, workshops and events for 2026–27.
Creating a culture where everyone feels valued, respected and that they belong is something we all have a part to play in. The programme is designed to give colleagues opportunities to learn, reflect and build confidence in talking about and responding to a range of diversity and inclusion issues.
With the wider conversations currently taking place around inclusion and belonging, we especially want to draw attention to learning opportunities covering areas such as:
- Race, anti-racism, microaggression and racial inclusion
- Neuroinclusion and supporting neurodivergent colleagues and students
- Workplace reasonable adjustments and inclusive practice
- Faith, religion and belief
- Gender equality, misogyny and LGBTQ+ inclusion
- Creating inclusive teams, classrooms and working environments
Sessions are delivered with support from Diversity and Inclusion specialists and subject experts and are open to all LJMU and JMSU staff. They are available both online and in person.
We hope colleagues will take a look at the programme and sign up for sessions that are useful to them. Each session is an opportunity to learn something new, have important conversations and help us continue building a more inclusive LJMU community.

Deadline approaching: Diversity and Inclusion Funded Projects Programme 2026 / 2027
Applications are open for the 2026/27 Diversity and Inclusion Funded Projects Programme. The Fund supports staff-led projects that help create meaningful change in equality, diversity, inclusion and belonging across LJMU and beyond. Applications close at 9am on Monday 21st September.
