Update on Turnitin and the use of student work

Turnitin have recently proposed changes to their End User Agreement. This included a clause around the use of student submissions being used to help train their own AI services.

Following concerns raised by universities and colleges through Universities and Colleges Information Systems Association (UCISA), Turnitin has postponed introducing the new agreement until September 2027. It has also committed to redrafting the agreement and working with UCISA to address the sector’s concerns and clarify how student and staff data will be protected.

LJMU will continue to work with UCISA and monitor the ongoing development of all the technology used to support student learning.
