Digital Literacies

Digital literacies (sometimes also referred to as digital fluencies, competencies or capabilities) are important contemporary frameworks to consider, if we want to help our students develop continuous learning and professional development skills and attitudes.

The Faculty TEL team work with programme teams to map and integrate digital capabilities across curricula and within digital assessments. This, amongst other things, can help your students:

  • become more confident and responsible with digital tools,
  • develop a foundational knowledge of topics such as cybersecurity, data privacy and Generative AI,
  • think critically about how technologies influence them, their environment and even their future professions.

In addition to working with programme teams on the above, the TEL team have also developed a number of online digital literacy scenario days for our nursing students, combining multimedia content and Canvas activity types to generate realistic digital experiences of situations they may face in clinical settings. These provide additional extension and support activities appreciated by students, professional bodies and future employers.
