Special Collections and Archives

LJMU Special Collections and Archives is open 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday. We strongly advise visitors to book an appointment in advance, and requests for archive material must be made in advance.

Many of our archive collections are now catalogued on our online catalogue and we are gradually adding more collections.  The Special Collections & Archives online catalogue is now searched by the Library Discover system, so that you can also find our Archival Material on there. Where a collection is not on our online catalogue there are separate catalogues available for most of our archives and collections on the relevant collection page.

Items designated 'Special Collection' in Library Discover are materials collected over a number of years including items of historical interest, antiquarian books, limited editions, artists' books and special formats. These can be located by author, title or keyword searches, as well as searching by collection.

Please note, items from the Special Collections and Archives are for reference use only. Under no circumstances may they be removed from the Aldham Robarts Library.

The fragile, rare or sensitive nature of some items may require you to wear protective gloves, use a bookrest or another form of support. In all instances, photocopying and photography is at the discretion of the LJMU Archivist.
