Schools in the Faculty of Science:

Our research

In the Faculty of Science, we’re working on exciting research across a number of areas. From insights into health and wellbeing, pharmacy and biomedical breakthroughs and the latest astronomical discoveries to important work in genetics, psychology, evolutionary anthropology and ecology, we’re behind the big science headlines.

The breadth of our research is reflected in the results of our submissions to the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014 (the system that assesses the quality of research in UK higher education institutions). The School of Sport and Exercise Sciences, for example, were ranked equal 11th and designated as the top ranked academic department outside of the Russell Group Universities (an association of 24 British public research universities). The Astrophysics Research Institute was rated first for research among the UK Alliance Universities, a group of universities that drive innovation and enterprise growth through research and teaching, with 85% of the research rated world-leading or internationally excellent.
