Fashion lecturer's designs feature in video with David Beckham



David Beckham, Ian Wright and Alex Scott star in an England football video featuring up-cycled clothing and sustainable merchandise by fashion communication lecturer Jacqui McAssey.

The video launched last night (15 June) announces the players for the England women's squad for the Women's Euros, hosted in England (July 6 – 31).

The film which was shot last month and features England players who appear in the form of Pannini stickers.

Jacqui, a well-known face in women’s football fashion, was contacted to help the design and art direction, and contributes a range of clothes and artefacts for the shoots.

Touchline coat of scarves

“The film opens with one of my pieces and you see a model wearing a touchline coat made from pre-loved scarves and designed/made by myself and Paul Robinson,” she says.

Jacqui has made a name for herself around Britain football clubs for photographing and curating exhibitions of female fans’ football fashion. She started the project at Anfield, showing the vast array of women who support the Reds and creating female fanzines which showcased style but also the diversity of girls and women of all ages, races and faiths attending the ‘beautiful game’.

“My research has shifted from women football fans to environmentally-friendly football merchandise,” she said. “So watch this space!”
