Paid Discovery Internships for level 5 and 6 students

The final round of Discovery Internships for this academic year is open for applications

Students from second year (level 5) and final year (level 6) can apply for a Discovery Internships ahead of the deadline at midnight on Sunday 5 March.

These 140-hour, paid internships are based with a local organisation, working on a suitable project or piece of work that will enhance your employability skills and career insight. You are paid a living wage for the internship, which will begin in early May once teaching and assessments are complete. Interviews will take place before the end of March prior to assessments.

Discovery Internships are advertised via Unitemps, LJMU’s own recruitment agency. If you are already signed up for Unitemps, you can start applying immediately. If not, you can register on the website so you are eligible to apply for the internships. You can apply for as many internships as you want.

Why apply for a Discovery Internship?

Discovery Internships are an opportunity for you to:

  • test out your career ideas
  • gain invaluable workplace skills and experience
  • have examples to draw on and evidence on application forms and during interviews for future roles
  • discover if this is the type of job/role you want to pursue after graduation
  • show your commitment and enthusiasm to any future employer
  • earn some spending money for the summer

If you do not know what direction you want to take in future, or you cannot find your perfect internship opportunity, any work experience on your CV is of huge benefit. Whatever role you try, you’ll learn more about yourself and working life.

You will also gain skills in the process and it may even lead to more suitable experience with the same company, or it could be good preparation for another opportunity that’s closer to what you want to do.

What is the Internship timeline?

  • Close for applications – Midnight on Sunday 5 March
  • Interviews – to take place before 31 March
  • Internship begins – from Tuesday 2 May (this may vary slightly for each role)
