Transforming your innovative I.D.E.A.S. into reality

LJMU is launching a brand-new innovation programme to support staff and postgraduate students to transform their groundbreaking ideas, research and inventions into products and services.

The Innovation Development, Evaluation and Acceleration to Scale (I.D.E.A.S.) Programme will provide expert guidance from across the university through the innovation lifecycle to take your idea from concept to reality.

If you have an idea or piece of research that you think has the potential to be developed for commercial or non-commercial use, this programme is for you.

Led by our Research Innovation Services, the initiative will deliver tailored support across three integrated stages of development:

Innovation

We'll help you develop essential innovation skills, show you how to transform your ideas, research, and inventions into practical solutions and guide you in creating evidence-based proposals.

Intellectual property

The team will support you in strategically protecting your intellectual assets, ideas, research and inventions, and secure the right exploitation rights for you.

Commercialisation

This phase will guide your strategy for market entry, explore licensing opportunities and support you in raising external investment and establishing key partnerships.

Ideas welcomed from all disciplines

The I.D.E.A.S. Programme will support a wide range of innovations across all disciplines. These could include:

  • A postgraduate’s sustainable material research, protected and explored for commercial applications.
  • A staff member’s innovative teaching method, adapted for broader use.
  • New life science, health or medical technologies, software applications, or social programmes designed to address pressing challenges.

The focus is on projects and ideas with the potential for real-world impact, regardless of the field.

Transforming ideas into impactful solutions

LJMU is home to exceptionally talented staff and postgraduates who generate brilliant ideas. By providing dedicated support around innovation, intellectual property and commercialisation, we can transform those ideas, research and inventions into impactful solutions to real world problems.
