Join a sports club

From Athletics to Yoga, there's a huge range of sports to get involved in at Liverpool John Moores University.

You might be an elite sporting champion. You may never have thrown a rugby ball in your life. Either way it doesn't matter because wherever you sit on the sporting spectrum there is a sports group at John Moores Students’ Union (JMSU) that matches your ambitions and abilities.

What sports can I get involved in?

Whether you want to join a team or focus on an individual sport, there's a wide range of sports available – anything from rowing to martial arts and plenty in-between. As the sports teams change each year, you can find out the current list of sports clubs on the JMSU website. This time next year you might just achieve your personal best or help lift your team's trophy.

British Universities and Colleges Sport

John Moores SU is proud to have 35+ LJMU sports teams currently competing within British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS). By joining one of the BUCS teams, you'll be able to represent LJMU playing competitive sport against other universities across the country. BUCS gives you the chance to take your game to the next level.

For the 2019/20 season, LJMU ranked 14th in the Northern division. Some of our achievements from the most recent season include:

  • Men’s Gaelic were All-Ireland Champions
  • Netball 1st won the BUCS Northern Conference Cup
  • Rugby League won their respective BUCS League and Cup Competition
  • Women’s Hockey 2nd won promotion in their division.

Give it a Go

If competition is not in your nature, our social sport programmes are a great way to meet like-minded people, get active in a friendly environment and have fun. Take a look at the current social sports on offer on the JMSU website.

For further information about our sports teams and how to join or start your own, visit the JMSU website.

Remember: you can join a team even if you have no previous experience of playing the sport. We would encourage you to try something new. You never know, you might uncover a hidden talent.
