Visiting Research Fellows

The Liverpool Institute for Research in Education (LIFE) is delighted to announce our new Visiting Research Fellow scheme for scholars in the field of education. This prestigious scheme aims to foster global academic collaboration, enhance research excellence, and contribute to the vibrant intellectual community in LIFE, the School of Education, and LJMU.

Eligibility

  • The scheme is open to early career researchers who want to develop their skills and profile, as well as mid-career researcher sand distinguished scholars who are demonstrating excellence in educational research.
  • Fellowships can be from two weeks to one year, depending on your aims and funding.
  • Applicants should hold a doctoral degree and have a publication record in reputable academic journals.
  • Scholars from diverse educational backgrounds and research interests are encouraged to apply.
  • Successful applicants must demonstrate that they have all necessary permission and visas to travel to and stay in the UK, and have sufficient financial support for the duration of their visit.

Please note:
LJMU are not able to offer any financial support to Visiting Fellows during their visit for subsistence, accommodation, work or any other purpose.

Applications

Scholars wishing to express an interest in becoming a LIFE Visiting Research Fellow are invited to submit the following documents to the Head of Institute, Professor Michael Thomas.

  1. Identify and contact a member of LIFE or the School of Education from the Staff Profiles and obtain a written agreement with an academic to be the host.
  2. A detailed academic curriculum vitae (CV).
  3. A cover letter (maximum two pages) outlining your research interests and objectives for the fellowship.
  4. A research proposal (maximum 2,000 words) detailing your intended research project, its significance and what collaborative research publications and activities your visit will result in (for example how many research publications, grant applications, conference visits).
  5. Two letters of recommendation from academic referees.
  6. The Visiting Fellow Application Form (downloaded from the Academic Visitors’ page).

Please note:
All visiting positions are subject to the availability and capacity of a suitable academic host and this person will be expected to liaise with the applicant on the application process.
It is essential that the applicant provides evidence of their visa with their application.

Deadline

Applications are accepted throughout the academic year and can be for a short duration or maximum twelve months in the first instance. They may be face to face (on campus) or remote/digital or a combination of both.
