Elizabeth Anionwu (1947-present)
Anionwu qualified as a state registered nurse in 1968 and was the UK’s first sickle cell and thalassemia nurse specialist.- In 1979, she collaborated to create the first sickle cell and thalassemia centre in Brent.
- She obtained a PhD from University College London and, from 1990,she was a lecturer at the Institute of Child Education, UCL.
- Her learning framework for nurses was accredited in 2010 by the Royal College of Nursing.
- Anionwu was awarded a damehood in 2017 for her services to nursing and the Mary Seacole Statue Appeal.
- She has published over 30 significant works, including journal articles and books.
