Extending Multi Factor Authentication

From Monday 10 February 2025, IT Services will be expanding the use of Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) across Microsoft Office 365 applications including email, Teams, OneDrive and SharePoint.

MFA is a vital tool in keeping our data and systems safe from potential cyberattacks and threats. You will already be familiar with using MFA to access InfoBase or Canvas so the process will be the same for access to Office apps.

Better prepared for potential risks

Widening our use of MFA allows us to be better prepared for potential risks of malicious access to our staff Microsoft Office 365 accounts and prevent access to information of a particularly sensitive or business critical nature.

In practice, this will mean when using any Office 365 application while not in an LJMU office space or on campus, you’ll need to complete the MFA process as well as your username and password. You will only receive one MFA challenge every 60 days if you use the same device - if you use another device, however, you will need to complete the same process.

If you’ve not used MFA before or would like to know more you can find information here.
