Ellen Churchill Semple (1863-1932)
Semple was an American geographer who earned her Bachelors and Master's degrees from the University of Leipzig, Germany.- From 1923 until 1932, she was professor of anthropogeography at Clark University, Massachusetts, US.
- In 1921, she was the first woman to be elected president of the Association of American Geographers.
- Her notable works include 'American History and its Geographic Conditions' (1903), 'Influences of Geographic Environment' (1911), and 'The Geography of the Mediterranean Region' (1931).
