Matataro Matsumoto (1865-1943)

  • Attended Tokyo University, Yale University, and Leipzig University.
  • Referred to as the most distinguished figure in the history of Japanese psychology.
  • Specialised in experimental psychology and introduced experimental methods for psychological research to Japan.
  • Professor at Tokyo Higher Normal School, Kyoto University, and Tokyo University.
  • Founded the Japanese Journal of Psychology and the Japanese Psychological Association, for which he was President until he died.
