Shuji Nakamura

Nakamura is a Physicist and Electronics engineer who was born in Ikata, Ehime, Japan.
At school, he was not academically gifted and his passion throughout primary and high school was volleyball.
Nakamura studied Electronic Engineering at the University of Tokushima and his doctorate from this institution.
Shortly after graduating, he started working at Nicha and there he developed the first Gallium Nitride LED.
In 2014, Nakamura was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics for the invention of the blue LED.
