Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences
In the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences, we are committed to promoting and embedding a culture of equity, diversity, inclusion and respect in its broadest sense.
This involves creating and nurturing a supportive, diverse, and equitable working environment for all our staff and students.
Ultimately, we strive to create equity of opportunity for all, enabling colleagues and students alike to realise and fulfil their potential.
Our initiatives
Please note:
We will be updating our initiatives on 1 March 2026.
Embedding EDI in our curriculum
Between 2021 and 2024, we developed an EDI curriculum enhancement theme.
The learning outcomes related to equality, diversity and inclusion across all our undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes.
Championing women in sport and exercise
We hosted the Women in Sport and Exercise Academic Network (WiSEAN) conference in 2023.
The event showcased innovative and inspirational work in the field of women and girls in sport and physical activity.
Celebrating diversity and inclusion
We continue to recognise and celebrate diversity in all its forms.
Through events, initiatives and everyday interactions, we aim to create an environment where everyone feels valued, respected and able to contribute fully.
Co-creating our mission vision and values
Our mission, vision and values were co-created with input from every member of the school.
They guide how we work and study together, fostering an inclusive and supportive culture.
