External Engagement

Award-winning public engagement team

Why can Olympic sprinters run so fast? Of course, talent and personal drive to be the best matters. Without them, reaching peak sport performance is unlikely. However, that is not the whole story.

Success also depends on the people behind the scenes.

Sport scientists play a vital role in helping athletes train, compete, rest, recover, and manage injury.

Why physical activity matters

Have you ever wondered why being physically active is so good for you?

Regular physical activity supports health at every stage of life. It benefits bone health, weight management, mental wellbeing, blood pressure, and heart and lung function.

The School of Sport and Exercise Sciences at LJMU is world-renowned for innovative teaching, research, and applied consultancy.

Our external engagement work helps translate this expertise for a wide range of audiences. It reflects our commitment to sharing knowledge, changing behaviour, and making a positive impact on society.

The engagement team is led by Professor Zoe Knowles, an award-winning public engagement specialist. Zoe is also an Engage Academy Graduate, and NCCPE Public Engagement Professional.
