High Performance Sport and TASS in the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences
Liverpool John Moores University has been a Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) delivery site for over 15 years. It supports athletes to balance their academic studies with high-level sport.
TASS is recognised globally as a leader in 'dual career' support.
It has advised organisations including the IOC, the EU, governments and sporting bodies worldwide.
Dual career accreditation
LJMU is leading the way with supporting talented athletes in education in England. We have been accredited by an innovative Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) initiative.
The TASS Dual Career Accreditation Scheme formally recognises institutions that support student-athletes. Its aim is to help athletes succeed academically while progressing in their sport.
As a Dual Career Accredited Site, LJMU strengthens the TASS university network. It delivers core support services to more than 600 student-athletes each year.

We’re delighted to be awarding TASS Dual Career Accreditation to colleges and universities across England.
Dual career support is at the forefront of what TASS does and that’s why the Accreditation Scheme is so important for us. We recognise those institutions who place precedence on their athletes’ education too.

Athlete support services
TASS athletes can access the following support services (dependent on TASS Award):
- Strength and Conditioning
- Physiotherapy
- Nutrition
- Performance Lifestyle
- Psychology
- Private medical scheme
Support goes beyond improving sporting performance. This is where Dual career support structures and academic flexibility is important. Students can access online resources, arrange catch-up sessions, or adjust deadlines or exam dates in exceptional circumstances.
All Dual Career Accredited Sites receive training and practical resources. This helps ensure a coordinated approach from everyone involved in supporting the athlete.

We hope that the academic flexibility policies put into place for the Accreditation will begin to develop an effective and lasting dual career structure within each institution.
Congratulations to the successful institutions. We look forward to working alongside many more outstanding colleges and universities in the near future.
