Dr Bike
Bring your bike along to our Dr Bike session where you can get a health-check for your bike for free. The event is on a drop-in basis so you can come along anytime between 8am and 11am and wait while a mechanic performs essential checks and minor repairs to ensure your bike is safe and roadworthy.
If there is a queue, you’ll be able to leave your bike and lock, and pick it up later after it’s been checked.

Workshop: Exploring Sustainability Issues with Computer Mapping Software
This session will introduce you to the world of mapping spatial data. Assuming no previous knowledge, we’ll explore a current sustainability issue using QGIS, gaining an understanding on how this would be used to better understand environmental changes.
This is a key skill that employers seek in the Environmental Industry! The session is open to anyone from any course and is in a PC-Lab so you just need to turn up.

Sustainable Cooking Class
Join us for a hands-on cooking class focused on healthy, affordable and sustainable eating.
This session will explore practical ways to reduce food waste by making the most of ingredients, including using commonly discarded parts of vegetables and adapting recipes to use up leftovers. All ingredients and equipment will be provided.

Nature Walk
Join LJMU and your JMSU Officers as we head out to Sefton Park for a nature walk. Spending time in green space is great for your mental and physical health so come along, get some fresh air, and enjoy being in nature at one of our favourite green spots in Liverpool!
We’ll also be paying for bus journeys and a refreshment whilst out.

Sustainable Laboratory Research with Martin Farley - UKRI Associate Director of Environmental Sustainability
UKRI’s approach to environmentally sustainable research moving forward
UKRI has recently refreshed their strategy on environmental sustainability. In this talk, Martin will introduce this refresh, and outline UKRI’s new ambitions in this area. He’ll then connect this with the new sustainable practice and research knowledge hub (SPARKHub) they are building, and how it will support the Concordat’s aims and all sustainable research activities.

Laboratory Sustainability Workshop
Join the LEAF Team as we host a hands-on workshop introducing the principles of the Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework (LEAF).
This interactive session will:
- demonstrate practical ways to improve laboratory sustainability
- share examples of energy saving and waste reduction practices
- opportunities to try easy, impactful actions that support greener lab operations

LJMU Climate and Sustainability Talk
We’ve been hard at work over the past few years and are now 15th place in the People and Planet’s UK universities sustainability ranking. This is a huge jump of 28 places, which now places LJMU as a first class university!
Come along to hear about everything we’ve been doing at LJMU to reduce emissions and improve sustainability, and what else we’ve got planned. This will be led by our Environmental Sustainability and Energy Team and there will be time to ask them any questions you might have.

Swap Shop
Swap don’t shop with Zero Fashion!
A swap shop is a great way to find new clothes, extend the life of your current items and reduce waste, thereby reducing your impact on the environment. Bring along up to 5 items of clothing you no longer wear and swap them for new ones.
If there’s nothing you want to take, we’d love for you to view this as a donation. All leftover items will be used by Zero Fashion CIC when holding swap shops in the local community.
