The Mechanical Engineering and Materials Research Centre (MEMARC) specialises in fracture and contact mechanics, wave propagation in lattices and microstructures, thermal fatigue and thermal striping, materials development and processing, as well as dynamics and control systems. Research within the Contexts of Human Evolution Group involves archaeological, palaeontological and environmental analyses of human evolution. Our research focuses on mammalian evolution, hominin behaviour and ecology, and patterns of faunal and floral distribution. Professor Roger Webster is the former Executive Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Professional and Social Studies and Professor of Literary Studies at the university. He was awarded an Honorary Fellowship by LJMU in 2017 for his outstanding contribution to arts and cultural education. He brought together a book on the origins and history of LJMU, released in 2017 for the university’s 25th anniversary.
