Inez Beverly Prosser (1896 - 1934)

  • Prosser attended the Prairie View A&M University and Samuel Huston College in Texas before joining the University of Colorado and University of Cincinnati.
  • She is remembered as the first Black woman to receive a PhD in Psychology.
  • Prosser taught at historically Black colleges or universities (HBCUs) in the US.
  • She specialised in the self-esteem, personality variables, and academic development of Black children in mixed and segregated schools.
  • Prosser was instrumental in gaining funding for Black college and graduate students.
