Maya Lin (1959 - Present)
Lin is a Chinese-American designer and sculptor well known for historical memorials and environmentally-themed works.- She achieved national recognition when she won a design competition for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC, while a student at Yale University.
- Lin has been awarded honorary doctorate degrees from Yale University, Harvard University, Williams College, and Smith College.
- President Barack Obama honoured her twice; first with the National Medal of Arts in 2009 and then The Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016.
