Ray Wu (1928-2008)
Wu obtained his Biochemistry PhD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1955.- He was deemed “one of the founding fathers of plant genetic engineering”.
- In 1970, Wu developed the first DNA sequencing method, successfully engineering pest-resistant rice using useful genes from a potato.
- In 1999, he created the Ray Wu Graduate Fellowship, which supports new graduates through an endowment of $500,000 each year.
- In 2002, Wu was given the prestigious 'Frank Annunzio Award' in Science and Technology.
