In this RCBB Research Seminar Series talk, Prof Helen L. Ball (Durham University) will present her current research under the title "Changing co-sleeping conversations by reconsidering risks, benefits, and biology.".

The evolved biology of the mother-baby dyad predicts co-sleeping (bed-sharing) as a behavioural strategy to promote infant survival and reduce parent-infant conflict. The epidemiology of infant mortality implicates co-sleeping in increased risk for sudden infant death. Research at Durham’s Infancy and Sleep Centre has explored the nuances of night-time infant care in families for whom co-sleeping produces dramatically different outcomes, changing policy and practice in the UK.
