World class marine engineer joins LJMU team

Liverpool John Moores University has welcomed Professor Tony Graham FREng to its ranks as it strengthens research and knowledge exchange in marine and shipping technology.

Tony Graham, a former Constructor Real Admiral in the Royal Corps of Naval Constructors and COO at Cammell Laird, is currently a Director of Bluewater Portfolio Limited and the Chairman of OCEA Shipbuilding UK Ltd.

His navy experience includes leading high-profile projects including the Landing Ship Dock Auxiliary, MARS Fleet Tanker, and Queen Elizabeth Aircraft Carrier programmes. Tony’s achievements were recognised in his election as a Royal Academy of Engineering Fellow in 2016.

As a Visiting Professor in Marine Technology and Project Management funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering and also an Adjunct Professor at LJMU, Tony will assist the university in developing its marine engineering area with industrial knowledge and connections, whilst supporting staff and students in their research ambitions over the next three years.

Industry connections

He recently delivered his inaugural professorial lecture in the School of Engineering, sharing his comprehensive industrial experience in marine technology and project management.

“Tony is an exceptional leader, and his experience, knowledge and connections will inform many of our future projects as we seek to advance marine technology and maritime engineering in the UK,” said Professor Jin Wang, Associate Dean (Research and Knowledge Exchange) in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology.

A warm welcome to Professor Graham!
