LJMU and National Museums Liverpool agree new partnership

Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) and National Museums Liverpool have set out a joint commitment to collaborate on new initiatives for the benefit of their communities and wider society.

Memorandum of Understanding signed

The two organisations have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to further strengthen their partnership and create new opportunities for students, staff, the public and wider society.

LJMU and National Museums Liverpool already have a strong and longstanding relationship, working together on a wide range of initiatives and exhibitions, including the John Moores Painting Prize and the recent Littlewoods Legacy Exhibition, as well as being partners in the city region’s Culture Network.

The MoU formalises a commitment to identify new opportunities for joint research, teaching provision, student experience, public engagement and internationalisation. The partners will look to develop activity themed around people and skills, place and community, and knowledge and impact.

National Museums Liverpool is one of the most significant cultural organisations in the region and we are proud of our successful and longstanding relationship and links we have across the university.

Dr Aileen Jones continued:

“We are delighted to have formalised that partnership through this Memorandum of Understanding and look forward to working together on new initiatives that make a real impact in our communities.

“We are excited by the possibilities of creating new opportunities for our students through placements, projects and collaborative initiatives as well as finding new ways to share expertise and reach new audiences.”

Laura Pye, Director of National Museums Liverpool said: “Museums exist to preserve, educate, share and celebrate material culture and stories and working in partnership is fundamental to our work.

“LJMU is a key institution in the Liverpool City Region with global impact, we have a long-established relationship and shared values to create positive impact in society and making a difference in people’s lives.

“We are excited to put in place this formal partnership which will drive new creative processes and new ways of thinking through many joint opportunities to create knowledge, develop skills and grow public engagement.”
