Redmond prize fund launches for student entrepreneurship and innovation

Honorary Fellow, Professor Sir Phil Redmond has returned to campus to kickstart a new prize fund for students with bright ideas for future projects.

Student prize for entrepreneurship and innovation

Named after Sir Phil and his wife, Lady Alexis, the Redmond Annual Prize for Entrepreneurship and Innovation will reward students with a £2,500 prize to support the development of new ventures.

We want to create a programme to encourage people with just the spark of an idea to see where it could take them.

Sir Phil Redmond

On the fund, Sir Phil Redmond said: “We want to create a programme to encourage people with just the spark of an idea to see where it could take them. This could be the catalyst for real game-changing innovation.  Creativity is in everything that we do which is why a university like LJMU is so well placed to offer all students, from any discipline, the chance to talk to the experts and see what could happen.”

This bespoke fund has been established and shaped by Sir Phil and Lady Alexis Redmond with Corporate Communications and the Student Futures team.

Professor Mark Power said: "We have been successfully supporting students with ideas to set up businesses and ventures for over 20 years; I would encourage all students to take a look at this and see where you end up.  The Redmonds are great friends of the university and I’m really grateful that they continue to take such a personal interest in our students.”

How students can apply

The programme will run from the LJMU Start-up Hub in Student Futures, students who wish to find out more and learn about the opportunity should visit the expression of interest page on the LJMU website.
