LJMU join HRH on the national maritime stage

Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) was among the key stakeholders to meet HRH The Princess Royal at a Maritime-UK event in London.
Professor Mike Riley, Director of CEBE, represented the university at M-UK’s National Council, chaired by the Princess who is Patron of the industry organisation.
Mike said: “The M-UK partnership links our expertise in maritime with the wider industry and policymakers through M-UK.
“This is about us being represented at the highest level in the maritime sector as we are the only university partnered with M-UK.”
The Princess engaged with Mike and other from across the maritime sector as the sector seeks growth through innovation, advancing sustainability, and upskilling.
Mike also met with Chris Shirling-Rooke, CEO of Maritime UK, who is an Honorary Fellow of LJMU.
LJMU recently established the Global Centre for Maritime Innovation to provide new opportunities for collaboration and engagement between academics, external partners and the wider industry to deliver impactful research, education and training.
Maritime Minister Mike Kane MP said, of the launch,: "The UK can proudly boast world-class maritime teaching and training with universities like Liverpool John Moores University leading the way in delivering the very best opportunities for students.”
The university is involved in an £8m UK-wide Doctoral Training Centre and will lead a £2.5 million project funded by UKRI agency, called Maritime and Last Mile Net Zero which brings together Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, Sefton Council, Wirral Council, Knowsley Council, LCR Freeport, the University of Liverpool (UoL) and Queen's University Belfast.
