Dual award agreement extended with University of Shanghai for Science and Technology
Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) and the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST) have extended their dual award agreement which provides qualifications for international students in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.
A delegation from USST led by their President, Zhu Xinyuan, joined LJMU colleagues in Liverpool during May to discuss further opportunities for collaboration and to officially sign the agreement extension.
As part of the agreement, BEng (Hons) programmes are also delivered through the Sino-British College (SBC), also based in Shanghai and which was jointly established by USST and nine British universities including LJMU.
During the visit to Liverpool, representatives from USST and SBC toured a range of world-class facilities housed within the Faculty of Health, Innovation, Technology and Science, before meeting with LJMU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mark Power, and other representatives of the Executive Leadership Team. They also undertook a visit to the city’s Knowledge Quarter and to this year’s Premier League winners Liverpool Football Club.
LJMU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mark Power, said: “The partnership with the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology has been a key initiative for almost 20 years and during that time we have seen the relationship go from strength to strength. With dedicated teams here in Liverpool, and China, we look forward to jointly developing cohorts of graduates who we can all be proud of, who are entering the world of work with the skills and determination to succeed and to make a real difference to their chosen sector and communities.”

It is a great honour to be in Liverpool, which is my first trip to the UK since I took over as President. Our partnership is of great importance to both institutions. My priority is to build on the excellent work to date and to strengthen the relationship so that we can develop more international programmes and exchange more staff and students. I am very grateful to LJMU for their contribution to this partnership and for enhancing the student experience.

USST President Zhu Xinyuan
Dr Julia Wang, Director of International Relations at LJMU, said: “We were honoured to welcome President Zhu and colleagues from both USST and SBC to Liverpool to celebrate our long-standing partnership and to reaffirm our dual award arrangements.
“As part of our broader International Strategy, we also discussed the potential to expand our dual award offer to other programmes led by our award-winning business school, alongside conversations about joint research capabilities and further opportunities for staff and student mobility.”
For the past two years both business and engineering students from LJMU have taken part in summer schools at SBC, providing a fortnight of immersive activities to further enrich the students’ time at university.
