LJMU supports 'Thrive' young people to share career experiences with PM

Local young people meet Prime Minister and the Secretary of State

Young people taking part in the Rise Construction Framework’s Thrive Careers Hub have met with Secretary of State, the RT Hon Liz Kendall, alongside Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, Steve Rotheram, to launch the government’s Youth Trailblazer scheme.

As part of the launch, the individuals also spoke with UK Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer to share their own work experiences, challenges they face, and what support they need to move into meaningful employment.

LJMU staff from across the university and LJMU Student Futures; Careers, Employability and Start-Up team, have previously met with some of the young individuals taking part, to mentor and advise them on a range of industry topics, providing careers advice and mock interview opportunities to build their confidence and gain experience which they can utilise in the job market.

Support for the Thrive Careers Hub

The Thrive Careers Hub, launched by local partner the Rise Construction Framework, is a dedicated safe space for care leavers and young people furthest from the job market. Looking and feeling like a coffee shop, Thrive supports young people from across the Liverpool City Region.

Young people who attend Thrive are not complex, but their circumstances can be, so having support from trusted partners like LJMU really makes a difference.

“Working with LJMU provides young people with access to a range of information and support from professionals who have the young peoples’ best interests at heart, these sessions have helped to boost our young people’s confidence as well as providing valuable industry insight.

Sara Lawton, Director of Rise Construction Framework

The partnership with Rise Construction Framework forms part of LJMU’s Place and Partnership Plan, which over the next five years will focus on several key priorities, including strengthening the regional skills base, collaborating with local business and industry to drive inclusive economic growth, and catalysing social inclusion.
