Liverpool Business School becomes first to receive NCEE's Entrepreneurial Award

The university’s business school has been recognised for exceptional entrepreneurial education and community impact.

LJMU's Liverpool Business School (LBS) has become the first business school to receive the prestigious National Centre for Entrepreneurship in Education (NCEE) Entrepreneurial Award.

Deeply embedded commitment to enterprise and entrepreneurship

The school achieved a ‘very good’ rating and has been granted the accreditation for the next three years. The independent review panel was particularly impressed by LBS’s 'deeply embedded commitment to enterprise and entrepreneurship across its strategic planning, innovative curriculum design, and community partnerships.'

The school demonstrated exceptional strength in aligning its local identity with global innovation  leadership, with 82% of students engaging in real-world projects including consultancy for local SMEs. The reviewers highlighted the school’s impressive track record of working with LJMUs Start-up Hub, which now has student and alumni start-ups generating £18.8 million in turnover from 157 active firms.

What is the NCEE Entrepreneurial Award

The NCEE Entrepreneurial Award publicly recognises innovative, transformational universities and departments making significant impact on their communities and society. The rigorous accreditation process includes an eligibility check, site visit, detailed application submission, and thorough evaluation by an independent expert review panel.

Successful institutions must demonstrate strong entrepreneurial culture, transformative impact, and entrepreneurial leadership across three key areas: culture and leadership, developing entrepreneurial people, and context and place.

We’re delighted to be the first business school to have achieved this accreditation from the NCEE.

Professor Adam Shore, Liverpool Business School Director

Professor Adam Shore continued:

“Our focus is on shaping a better future by engaging meaningfully with businesses and communities, both locally and further afield and we’re pleased our commitment to enterprise and entrepreneurship for our students, alumni and community have been recognised.”

This latest achievement for the Liverpool Business School adds to its growing list of accolades, including the 2025 Educate North Business School of the Year award and Small Business Charter status.

Dr James Ransom, Head of Research at NCEE, said:

“Liverpool Business School can be deservedly proud for receiving this Award.

“The reviewers were particularly impressed by the school’s role in shaping Liverpool City Region policy, its extensive partnerships with organisations supporting inclusive entrepreneurship, and its innovative pedagogical approaches including business simulations, lean startup models, and student-led Business Clinics. As the first business school to receive this accreditation, LBS has set a benchmark standard for how business education can drive real entrepreneurial impact in communities.”
