Canvas Consistency Project
LJMU is launching a three-year project to improve how students use online learning.
The university wants to make sure all online courses look and work in similar ways. This will help students find what they need more easily.
Why is this important?
Right now, different courses are set up in different ways. This can make it confusing for students to find information or understand how to use their courses. It can be particularly hard for students who are neurodiverse or have disabilities.
What's being done?
Nick Adamson from the Teaching and Learning Academy is leading the project. The team is:
- Working with staff and students to understand what works best
- Creating clear guidelines for how online courses should be organised
- Making sure the changes help everyone learn better
The university has already made some improvements. They added a standard "Key Information" section to all courses and worked with sports science programmes to create better course layouts. It has also worked with one programme team to improve home pages and accessible templates. This work was recently presented at our conference Session 4: The design and implementation of a Canvas course template across an entire school
What happens next?
Over the next three years, the Teaching and Learning Academy will keep testing and improving the online learning experience. The goal is to make sure every student can navigate their courses easily and focus on learning.
Students and staff who want to share ideas about online learning can contact the Teaching and Learning Academy.
