Interactive 360 Learning Objects

Hotspot Interaction GIF

Hi everyone,

This is the first Faculty TEL email of 2022 so we hope you had a great Christmas and wonderful New Year! There is a lot to be excited about in the coming year with, what we hope, is a series of useful new developments and technologies incoming.

One of the latest pieces of learning tech we have had time to pilot is a professional HD 360 Omnidirectional camera partnered with specialist software for stitching together HD 360 images and video. With these new resources it is also possible to add small interactions and gamified elements such as hotspots, quiz cards, scores and navigation to 360 scenes. Other media can also be embedded within these scenes such as images, video, sound clips, documents and more. This is all compatible with Canvas and even VR headsets.

So far, this has made possible the creation of a virtual tour for new NAH staff on the New Staff Support site and some simple learning objects allowing students to explore complex 360 degree scenes.

We have had access to 360 cameras for a while now, but our newly purchased Z Cam S1 Pro is an industry standard device providing high quality omnidirectional video and image capture with the potential to create 360 video scenes that can potentially record for hours.

The software we have purchased is called 3DVista and for more of what is possible take a look at this example. Further examples of in house projects can be seen in the image below
