About our service

Where is PLSU located?

You can find us in Room 904, James Parson Building (in the tower), Byrom Street, Liverpool, L3 3AF.

How do I book an appointment?

Please use our booking page to book a one hour appointment with a Work-Based Learning Officer. If you cannot find a suitable timeslot, email scienceplsu@ljmu.ac.uk with your availability and we will do our best to book you in at a time that suits you.

Who can use the PLSU services?

All current LJMU students can use the PLSU service free of charge. Students who are not currently enrolled at the university who require advice and guidance on work placements can access support from the Careers team.

What services does the PLSU offer?

PLSU are here to support Faculty of Science students with all aspects of your placement journey. We offer information, advice and guidance, as well as coaching support in relation to Science placements and professional employability skill development, Find out more..

What can I expect from an appointment?

Appointments are usually 1 hour long and they can be used for whatever information and advice you require in terms of work placements. You may want to look at the type of support we can offer you by clicking here.  You can book as many appointments as necessary to gain the support you need.  It is not always easy to make time to come in for an appointment so we are able to offer you an appointment over the phone or by Skype in exceptional circumstances. 

Where can I download the placement paperwork from?

Pre-placement paperwork is available to download from your placement module Canvas page. If you still cannot access the paperwork, please contact our team and we will be able to help you further.

How do I reset my DBS application?

You may need to reset your DBS application if you submit your form with any details entered incorrectly. In this case, please contact our team by emailing scienceplsu@ljmu.ac.uk or calling 0151 231 2079 and we will reset your application. You will then be sent new login details, allowing you to complete the application form once more.

Can I call in without an appointment?

We welcome all students to visit the Science PLSU office. The PLSU team will help you with any questions you may have and subject to a Work Based Learning Officer being available, you can book in an appointment.

Who do I hand my pre-placement paperwork to?

You can send any pre-placement paperwork electronically to scienceplsu@ljmu.ac.uk or you can bring paper copies to our office where the team administrators will be happy to check over paperwork before final submission.
