1981 was designated by the United Nations as the International Year of Disabled People and since then, 3rd December has been marked as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. As of 2018, WISE Campaign (Women into Science and Engineering) announced that the UK is on track to have one million women working in the field by 2020. These statistics are encouraging, and demonstrate an improvement in opportunities shown to young women who pursue the career path.
MA Wildlife Conservation students Vanessa Grundy, 27 and Alex Donnelly, 27 along with Vanessa's brother Mike Grundy are currently at the Poland-Ukraine border helping refugees get to safe accommodation in Krakow, and further across Europe, following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
