A British potter who was responsible for reviving the art of ‘sgraffito’ in the UK in the 1950s. She studied at Liverpool College of Art in the 1940s where she discovered a passion for ceramics and later went on to teach at the college too.
Bas moved from Spain to study in Liverpool after friendship with the online gaming community brought him to the city. Since then, he has become an award-winning engineering student and is making a difference to the energy sector by creating ways to heat homes and buildings more efficiently.
Nicola has more than 25 years of experience in primatology research and teaching, tracing her curiosity about primates back to her childhood growing up in East London and making visits to London Zoo. She is also an advocate for driving forwards inclusivity at the university.
Dr Lynch has been part of the fabric of the university for over 50 years, as a student, as a lecturer, as the Liaison Judge for the School of Law, as an Honorary Fellow, a mature student and Visiting Research Fellow.
Julia is an award-winning artist who specialises in documentary drawing and reportage. As an LJMU veteran of more than 25 years before retiring in 2013, Julia is our Bicentenary year Artist in Residence, capturing special moments through watercolour sketches to help record this significant moment in our history.
Professor Michael Brown was the second Vice-Chancellor of the university, taking on the role at the helm from 2000 to 2011. Under his leadership, the university underwent a decade of quiet revolution, with the development of new campus buildings and a focus on graduate employability.
Izzy worked within LJMU’s Corporate Communications team as a graduate intern. She began her internship during the university's Bicentenary year in 2023, working on projects to celebrate the milestone anniversary and to engage with students. Sir Brian Leveson, perhaps best known for his outstanding contribution to the legal profession and leading the Leveson Inquiry into ethics within the UK media, was the fifth Chancellor of LJMU serving in the role for eight years from 2013 to 2021.
Professor Peter Toyne was the Rector at Liverpool Polytechnic between 1986 and 1992 and the first LJMU Vice-Chancellor, once it gained university status, from 1992 to 2000. His vision for the polytechnic and then the university benefited not just students but Liverpool too.
