Moni Akinsanya is Associate Director of Diversity and Inclusion and has worked at LJMU for over 16 years. She has led on many race and gender equality projects at the university and driven meaningful change, making sure the voices of underrepresented groups are heard.
Mayor of Liverpool, Joanne Anderson, is a courageous leader and an inspiration to so many as the first female Mayor of the city and the first Black woman to be directly elected as a Mayor in the UK. As a graduate and current MBA student at LJMU, Joanne is like so many other mature students that pass through our doors, seeing the benefit of further study - both for herself and for Liverpool.
Helen, from our Liverpool Business School, has played an important role in establishing routes into higher education for members of the Roma community in Liverpool.
Razvan embraced university life during his policing studies degree, having moved to the UK from Romania and being inspired by a coffee shop customer to work in the world of policing. He was a Student Advocate, supporting others to get into higher education and will now go on to serve with Merseyside Police taking his learned experience, and compassion for others, into his career.
Emily is a 2023 graduate of LJMU, having studied psychology. She is one of thousands of students who completed their studies during the COVID-19 health pandemic, drawing upon their resilience, adapting to hybrid learning and making the most of their university experience despite challenging times.
Kelly is a former international 400m athlete for Great Britain and Northern Ireland and has Olympic, World, Commonwealth and European medals to her name. She was one of the first sport scholars to study with LJMU in the late 2000’s and has been a lecturer with our School of Sports and Exercise Sciences since 2018.
Business graduate Sean, while he doesn’t take life too seriously, has used the skills he honed at LJMU to develop two wacky businesses.
Rachael is the Principal and Chief Executive at Hugh Baird College. She is passionate about post-16 education and was inspired to study at LJMU thanks to her own school PE teacher. She is incredibly student focused, ensuring that young people and adults from Merseyside can gain better skills which will enable them to seek out better lives.
Jane was a student at the F.L. Calder College of Domestic Science, one of LJMU’s historic colleges, where she qualified as a teacher. She went on to teach at schools in Wales thanks to a personal reference from Fanny Calder herself. Records from her life help to tell the significant history of LJMU as an institution that supports the training of teachers, always placing importance on providing education for all. Professor Michael Brown was the second Vice-Chancellor of the university, taking on the role at the helm from 2000 to 2011. Under his leadership, the university underwent a decade of quiet revolution, with the development of new campus buildings and a focus on graduate employability.
