Professor Roger Webster is the former Executive Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Professional and Social Studies and Professor of Literary Studies at the university. He was awarded an Honorary Fellowship by LJMU in 2017 for his outstanding contribution to arts and cultural education. He brought together a book on the origins and history of LJMU, released in 2017 for the university’s 25th anniversary.
Abdelrahman is a third-year biomedical sciences student. He came to LJMU from Egypt through the International Foundation Year and worked as a student mentor for fellow international students, to provide support and advice to help others settle into life in Liverpool.
Jack is an LJMU graduate, who as someone living with a disability, has found great support during his studies and fantastic mentors at the university.
Moni Akinsanya is Associate Director of Diversity and Inclusion and has worked at LJMU for over 16 years. She has led on many race and gender equality projects at the university and driven meaningful change, making sure the voices of underrepresented groups are heard.
Razvan embraced university life during his policing studies degree, having moved to the UK from Romania and being inspired by a coffee shop customer to work in the world of policing. He was a Student Advocate, supporting others to get into higher education and will now go on to serve with Merseyside Police taking his learned experience, and compassion for others, into his career.
Emily is a 2023 graduate of LJMU, having studied psychology. She is one of thousands of students who completed their studies during the COVID-19 health pandemic, drawing upon their resilience, adapting to hybrid learning and making the most of their university experience despite challenging times.
Kelly is a former international 400m athlete for Great Britain and Northern Ireland and has Olympic, World, Commonwealth and European medals to her name. She was one of the first sport scholars to study with LJMU in the late 2000’s and has been a lecturer with our School of Sports and Exercise Sciences since 2018.
Jane was a student at the F.L. Calder College of Domestic Science, one of LJMU’s historic colleges, where she qualified as a teacher. She went on to teach at schools in Wales thanks to a personal reference from Fanny Calder herself. Records from her life help to tell the significant history of LJMU as an institution that supports the training of teachers, always placing importance on providing education for all. Former Sports Scholar Ruth is a champion in the sport of target shooting, the first Black female athlete to represent England and become English Champion in the sport and continues to get support from LJMU through its Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme. She has hopes of competing in the Olympic and Commonwealth Games.
Michael is an alum of LJMU, having completed his undergraduate studies in sport science and postgraduate studies in public health here. Today he is the Deputy CEO of Everton in the Community, Everton Football Club’s charitable arm that supports thousands of people across Merseyside, often from the most vulnerable and underprivileged local communities, and creates life-changing opportunities.
