    The Educational Psychology Research Group is comprised researchers who use psychological theory and perspectives to understand and positively influence educational phenomena at all ages and stages of education.

  2. Professor Pat Shenton OBE (1945-2021)

    During her long career with LJMU, Pat was recognised nationally and internationally as an innovator who was progressive, courageous, and determined to enhance the life chances of young people. Up until her retirement in 2010 she was at the forefront of teacher education, schools, and community engagement; all with lasting legacies to this day.

  3. John Goulding

    John is a PhD student with the School of Education. He is also ex-forces, having served with the RAF Police before leaving the military and beginning his own higher education journey. Alongside his studies, looking at research to support veterans, John is a student representative on our Armed Forces Steering Group.

  4. Helen Collins

    Helen, from our Liverpool Business School, has played an important role in establishing routes into higher education for members of the Roma community in Liverpool.

    Our outreach programmes inspire students by working with schools, colleges, career advisors, and parents, offering expert higher education guidance.

  7. Dr Avril Rowley

    Avril is a graduate of the university, she spent 20 years teaching in primary schools on Merseyside before joining LJMU in 2014 where she is now a senior lecturer within our School of Education, working with both undergraduate and postgraduate students on our primary education programmes. She combines her passion for the outdoors with teaching, and has become our lead on outdoor learning, developing a new approach called the Natural Curriculum, and establishing two Forest School sites.

    Funded by The British Academy, POL\:EMERGE explores how global higher education policy uses evidence in response to emerging tech like AI.

  9. Living Black at University

    Commissioned by Unite Students, this research explores the experiences of Black students across university accommodation and private halls of residence, amplifying their voices and stories to the wider Higher Education sector.
