4. Malik Al Nasir

   Malik Al Nasir is an author, poet and academic from Liverpool. From the age of 9 to 18 Malik grew up in care. By 18 he says he was left traumatised, semi-literate, homeless and destitute, many years later going on to successfully sue Liverpool City Council for neglect, racism and physical abuse.

5. Professor Sir Howard Newby CBE

   Read the oration for Professor Sir Howard Newby CBE on the award of their Honorary Fellowship from Liverpool John Moores University presented by Professor Phil Redmond.

6. Fadi Alnaef

   Fadi is a 2023 graduate from the maritime business and management programme. He came to the UK as a refugee, having fled his home in Damascus, Syria, and gaining his initial qualifications in Greece. He used his dissertation research to highlight the challenges facing the shipping sector and their obligations under international law to help vessels in distress, including refugee and migrant boat crossings.
