Phil is a graduate of Liverpool Business School, having studied business, management and marketing. He now runs his own personal branding agency, OSSAI, which is going from strength-to-strength amplifying the voices of Black and diverse founders and CEOs.
Phil has worked at LJMU for over 16 years. He’s currently the Student Inclusion Lead within the Student Advice and Wellbeing Team and has recently started a new role as Diversity and Inclusion Associate Dean for Professional Services. Since 2010, Phil has also led on organising and representing LJMU at the annual Liverpool Pride March.
Moni Akinsanya is Associate Director of Diversity and Inclusion and has worked at LJMU for over 16 years. She has led on many race and gender equality projects at the university and driven meaningful change, making sure the voices of underrepresented groups are heard.
Mayor of Liverpool, Joanne Anderson, is a courageous leader and an inspiration to so many as the first female Mayor of the city and the first Black woman to be directly elected as a Mayor in the UK. As a graduate and current MBA student at LJMU, Joanne is like so many other mature students that pass through our doors, seeing the benefit of further study - both for herself and for Liverpool.
Alan is a Senior Teaching Fellow with our School of Engineering and in 2023 was awarded the Merchant Navy Medal for Meritorious Service in recognition of his contribution to maritime education over more than two decades.
Dhiya Al-Jumeily is a professor of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and has been teaching at LJMU for more than 26 years. He was awarded an OBE in The Queen’s New Year Honours list of December 2020 for his service to scientific research.
Business graduate Sean, while he doesn’t take life too seriously, has used the skills he honed at LJMU to develop two wacky businesses.
Rachael is the Principal and Chief Executive at Hugh Baird College. She is passionate about post-16 education and was inspired to study at LJMU thanks to her own school PE teacher. She is incredibly student focused, ensuring that young people and adults from Merseyside can gain better skills which will enable them to seek out better lives.
Jane was a student at the F.L. Calder College of Domestic Science, one of LJMU’s historic colleges, where she qualified as a teacher. She went on to teach at schools in Wales thanks to a personal reference from Fanny Calder herself. Records from her life help to tell the significant history of LJMU as an institution that supports the training of teachers, always placing importance on providing education for all. Jasmine is the 2023/24 President of Liverpool John Moores Students’ Union and is striving to create better ways for students to get support for a whole range of challenges, particularly the hidden ones, that they might face during their time at uni.
