Gary is an inspirational alumnus of the Liverpool Polytechnic. Using his background and expertise in computing, teaching and business development, he is truly one of Liverpool’s leading citizens, determined to make positive changes for the people of the city. From his work as a councillor, as the former Lord Mayor, and now as a diversity and equality champion, and ‘pay it forward’ evangelist and major fundraiser, he continues to help people, day in and day out, to reach their potential.
Alex Brooker is an LJMU alumni and Honorary Fellow. He is a role model and inspiration for people of all ages and backgrounds, but particularly for those with disabilities, as he himself was born with hand, arm and leg disabilities. He has attained huge success as a journalist and is renowned as a writer and television presenter.
Pete is the Outreach Manager at LJMU, responsible for building relationships with schools and colleges and for delivering the university’s sustained widening access initiatives, targeting under-represented learners and disadvantaged communities. In 2023 he celebrated 25 years of working at LJMU.
Alan is a Senior Teaching Fellow with our School of Engineering and in 2023 was awarded the Merchant Navy Medal for Meritorious Service in recognition of his contribution to maritime education over more than two decades.
Robert is a lecturer in criminal justice with a research focus on organised crime groups, which was influenced by his own experiences growing up on an estate in Merseyside where many young people were drawn into criminality. He takes prides in helping students from a similar background to him and ensures that his teachings provide real world value.
