Dr Carol Cox is a former police officer who now heads up higher education’s most successful unit for higher skills in policing in England, the Liverpool Centre for Advanced Policing Studies, part of our School of Justice Studies. Carol always wanted to help in the community and has an unshakeable belief in the power of education.
Steven is a Client Systems Engineer with LJMU’s Information Technology Services. He started his career in Professional Services as an apprentice before eventually gaining a degree - the first person in his immediate family to do so. With a full circle view of how the university works, Steven embodies our student focussed approach.
Dhiya Al-Jumeily is a professor of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and has been teaching at LJMU for more than 26 years. He was awarded an OBE in The Queen’s New Year Honours list of December 2020 for his service to scientific research.
An Honorary Fellow of LJMU for his continual pursuance of peace and one of the most memorable Roscoe lecturers to have graced the stage at Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral for our popular public lecture series that has been running since 1997.
Kelly is a former international 400m athlete for Great Britain and Northern Ireland and has Olympic, World, Commonwealth and European medals to her name. She was one of the first sport scholars to study with LJMU in the late 2000’s and has been a lecturer with our School of Sports and Exercise Sciences since 2018.
Jane was a student at the F.L. Calder College of Domestic Science, one of LJMU’s historic colleges, where she qualified as a teacher. She went on to teach at schools in Wales thanks to a personal reference from Fanny Calder herself. Records from her life help to tell the significant history of LJMU as an institution that supports the training of teachers, always placing importance on providing education for all. Sarah is an award-winning member of staff and alumni of LJMU. Having completed her degree as a mature student, she now leads the Creative Writing programmes in the Liverpool Screen School.
Robert is a lecturer in criminal justice with a research focus on organised crime groups, which was influenced by his own experiences growing up on an estate in Merseyside where many young people were drawn into criminality. He takes prides in helping students from a similar background to him and ensures that his teachings provide real world value.
Patricia, from our Liverpool Business School, has played an important role in establishing routes into higher education for members of the Roma community in Liverpool.
Lorraine Shaw was the Subject Lead for Nursing in the School of Nursing and Allied Health from 2013 until her retirement in 2023. As a registered nurse since 1987, practising in a range of clinical areas, her ties with LJMU began in 1992 when she needed a degree to progress with her career and enrolled with LJMU while continuing to work full-time for the NHS, and later venturing into teaching and management.
