Strategic Advisory Board
The LBS Strategic Advisory Board works together with the Director and Senior Leadership Team to shape strategy development and delivery by providing external, independent expertise and strategic insight to ensure the School is aligned to future needs for skills, employability, and broader economic development. The Board Members promote the School’s profile and values, make connections through their networks, accelerate its practice and impact, and identify new opportunities for income diversification and contribution to regional economic development
Strategic Advisory Board Members
Adjunct Professor Joanne Anderson (Chair)
Joanne Anderson’s 30-year career positions her as an expert in equity, diversity, inclusion, inclusive prosperity, and social impact. Joanne was the UK's first Black woman to be a directly elected City Mayor, leading Liverpool from May 2021 to May 2023. As Mayor, Joanne introduced a triple-lock framework for decision-making, prioritising people, planet, and equality. This led to significant policies on social value, community-led housing, and asset transfers, improving council services, governance, and finances. Joanne secured Eurovision 2023 for Liverpool, generating substantial economic returns. Currently, she's driving regional social investment, supporting Black-led business growth, and recently completed a Business Scale Up MBA at LJMU.
Leigh Pomlett (Vice-Chair)
Leigh Pomlett is a seasoned logistics executive with over four decades of experience in global transport, including senior leadership roles at Exel, DHL, and CEVA. He has led operations across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and the US, working extensively in automotive logistics, oil and gas, and joint ventures. He is a former President of the Freight Transport Association and has served on parliamentary select committees. Outside logistics, Leigh is Co-Chairman of Walsall FC, a qualified pilot, and co-owner of a restaurant. He lives in the Midlands with his family.
Mat Halsall
Mat Halsall is Non-Executive Director and Global Business Strategist at Group Sopex, and leads the Commodity Trading Hub programme at Liverpool Business School. He brings extensive experience in global commodity markets and is a member of the Authorisation, Rules and Conduct (ARC) committee at ICE Futures Europe. Mat’s strategic expertise and industry knowledge contribute to developing innovative education programmes, enhancing professional practice within the sector.
Dr Aileen Jones
Dr Aileen Jones is Pro-Vice-Chancellor for External Engagement and Partnerships at Liverpool John Moores University. Formerly Executive Director at the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, she led economic strategy and major devolved programmes. Aileen has held senior roles in academia, national policy, and the private sector, including with HSBC and in Parliament. With a PhD in public policy and a career spanning regeneration, investment, and inclusion, she brings deep insight into place-based economic development and public-private collaboration.
Professor Yusra Mouzughi
Professor Yusra Mouzughi is Provost at the University of Birmingham Dubai and a recognised leader in transnational higher education. Formerly President of the Royal University for Women (Bahrain) and Vice Chancellor of Muscat University (Oman), she was the first female university head in Oman. A UK-educated academic with a PhD in Knowledge Management from LJMU, her research spans sustainability and knowledge sharing. Professor Mouzughi has extensive experience in education strategy, cross-cultural leadership, and the development of doctoral education, underpinned by over 20 years in academia and five in industry.
Dr Crispen Sachikonye
Dr Crispen Sachikonye is a leadership educator and governance expert, currently Cohort Director for NHS Leadership Academy programmes. He has delivered executive learning across the UK and Southern Africa, focusing on systems change and social value. Formerly Chief Executive of Social Value UK, Crispen has held leadership roles in communications and branding agencies across three countries, and board positions in both the UK and Malawi. He holds a PhD in Business and Management from the University of Manchester and is a Chartered Director and Fellow of the Institute of Directors.
Professor Julia Clarke
Professor Julia Clarke is an independent consultant with a 30-year academic career, most recently as Deputy Vice Chancellor at Middlesex University and former Dean at Manchester Metropolitan University. She led the institution to triple accreditation status and has held senior roles at Leeds and Wolverhampton. A Chartered Accountant and Principal Fellow of the HEA, Julia chaired the Chartered ABS and contributed to national frameworks for teaching excellence. She remains active in higher education through advisory roles and visiting appointments, while also volunteering at the Brontë Parsonage Museum near her home in Yorkshire.
Dr Lisa Knight

Dr Lisa Knight is a senior academic and experienced Non-Executive Director with a career dedicated to strengthening leadership capability within complex systems, particularly across the health, housing, and social care sectors. She is currently Head of Innovation and Enterprise, Liverpool John Moores University, where she leads strategic engagement with industry and public services, including a flagship partnership with University Hospitals Liverpool NHS Trust.
Lisa has significant leadership and governance experience, holding board-level roles across the NHS and the housing and charity sectors. She is a Non-Executive Director at Mersey and West Lancashire NHS Teaching Hospitals Trust and serves as the organisation’s Wellbeing Guardian. Lisa is also a Non-Executive Director on the Board of Prima Housing Group, and a Trustee for the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management.
Her academic research explores the development and implementation of systems and place-based leadership within the public sector, alongside the pedagogical approaches that underpin effective leadership development. Lisa is a Senior Fellow of Advance HE, a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute, and a Certified Management and Business Educator.
Professor Adam Shore
Professor Adam Shore is Director of Liverpool Business School and a leader in entrepreneurial education. A Principal Fellow of the HEA, Adam’s work spans curriculum innovation, student engagement, and academic leadership. His entrepreneurial background includes founding a climbing centre, which informs his authentic teaching approach. His research focuses on entrepreneurial learning and emotional resilience. Adam is a member of several national boards, including the Chartered ABS Council and the National Centre for Entrepreneurship in Education, and he was conferred a Professorship in Management Education in 2023.
