Staff and community partners celebrate LGBT History Month

To mark LGBT History Month, LJMU Together - the University's LGBT+ Staff Network - organised a celebration and social evening on Friday 22nd February at Redmond's Building.

The network has operated in a variety of forms for more than a decade, promoting equality and inclusion for LGBT+ staff, informing the development of university policy and providing an opportunity for LGBT+ colleagues to network and access support.

Dr Liz Greene (Liverpool Screen School) provided an entertaining insight into her recent research 'Brews and Brows: Shaping Stories from Eyebrows to Scousebrows', while Joan Burnett (Film with Pride) discussed the history of Liverpool Pride fand gave an update on developments for this year's festival. Following the talks, Liverpool's Lady Seanne and Dame Alan led through group through some raucous games of their famous 'Psychic Bingo'.

Lucy Day and Phil Bakstad (Co-Chairs, LJMU Together) commented: "With more than fifty people from across the University and our community partners joining us on the night, this celebration evening was a resounding success and demonstrated that colleagues really found value in the opportunity to meet other LGBT+ staff in an informal setting. We were delighted that this format was such a hit and would like to thank everyone who attended -  our guest speakers and entertainers and all colleagues and friends. We will be planning further events throughout the year and would encourage anybody interested in joining the network to get in touch".

This event was generously supported by the LJMU Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Team.
